With Philip in charge of things, the advance team catch an Ebene scientist named Tisiphone lurking in a public building.
They capture her and bring her back, locking her in the basement. The House is relatively calm when Aden and Adriana
return from a trip to Hyrule, loaded with gifts and supplies. As they distribute their goods, and welcome back Malik
from Sybok, a young woman waltzes in the front door. She introduces herself as Chiara and announces that she has come
in response to an add Lex put out, looking for a House therapist. Immediately, she sets up shop in the office and begins
meeting with the Phoenix Fighters.
Although Tranns appears adamately against the concept of psychology, the others begin flocking to Chiara in droves.
Meanwhile, Cirrus visits the dungeon, threatening to kill Tisiphone unless she provides him with inside information about
the Ebene. Tisiphone refuses, calling herself a true and loyal Ebene.
Things begin to get strange after Philip sees Chiara and starts to exhibit warm and kind emotions, even bursting into
tears and becoming willing to talk about his estranged father. Jesse and Ariadne grow concerned for this behavior and
Ariadne goes to Chiara to ask after him. Chiara ends up holding a session with Ariadne and by the end of it, Ariadne
too is expressing hidden feelings of great sensitivity. That evening, Lucien reveals the same symptoms to Tranns, suddenly
announcing to her that he wants to marry her and have kids with her some day.
Soon, everyone in the House seems overly sensitive and caring, to the point where no one seems to be able to focus on
the mission except for Tranns, Cirrus, Lex, and Jesse. Jesse spies on one of Ariadne's sessions and reports to
Tranns that part of the session includes holding a mysterious, gnarled "talking stick." When Tranns continues to show
hostility to the idea of therapy, Lucien and Ariadne ask Chiara to hold a session with her. Chiara finds Tranns in the
basement, guarding Tisiphone. After Tranns storms out, Chiara, who is really an Ebene scientist, tells Tisiphone that
the stick is actually an emotional enhancer they've developed in their lab. Contact with it causes others to become
sensitized. Tisiphone warns Chiara that if the stick is broken, the spell will be nullified.
Upstairs, Tranns starts to mimick the vocabulary of the sensitized Phoenix Fighters and they willingly accept her, assuming
that she's had a session. She warns the others who are free of the spell to do the same. The next morning, Adriana
calls a meeting for everyone to sit around and talk about their feelings. The Phoenix Fighters under the spell make
many embarassing confessions before they soon realize that they wish to spread their love to others. The first thing
they do is decide to set Tisiphone free.
Cirrus and Jesse fight desperately to keep the others from freeing Tisiphone, but they fail and soon find themselves
at the mercy of the entranced Phoenix Fighters. Tisiphone makes a break for it, but Cirrus tackles her on the stairs,
snapping her neck. Upstairs, in the meanwhile, Tranns confronts Chiara and ends up coming to blows with her. She
gets ahold of the stick and breaks it, releasing the others from the spell. Tranns angrily kills Chiara. Life
in the House struggles to return to normal, the weight of everyone's confessions weighing down heavily on them. While
reflecting on the events, Lucien and Tranns both decide that they're ready to try for a baby.
