First Love, True Love

Tranns goes undercover in the remains of Felsen's harem in Gonogah.  There she learns that of the fifty Ebene officers running the royal palace, sixteen of them remain free.  Back at the House, Adriana makes a startling discovery of her own.  She is pregnant, this time, by Aden and after waffling back and forth for awhile, she decides she wants to have the baby.  This doesn't stop her, however, from joining Tranns and Philip when they return to Gonogah to eliminate the remaining Ebene.

They encounter little trouble along the way until they meet up with a disgruntled Ebene called Kaa.  He pretends to be a poet, reciting a mysterious incantation which ends up knocking them all out.  "Presents melt and never last, I call a curse from the days of the past.  Old fortunes come and dance in rings, rend new ties of these heartstrings.  True love will melt as the rains above, return to the days of forgotten first love."  When the trio wake up, Kaa is gone and nothing seems amiss, so they return to the House, confused and baffled.

Back in the House, the trio make some frightening discoveries.  Adriana finds Gavin, the man from her past, sitting at Aden's desk in the office.  Philip returns to his room where he discovers a courtesan he favored named Drusilla wearing Ariadne's clothing.  In the bar, Tranns stumbles upon Jace, an old lover from her past.  The confused Phoenix Fighters come together where they realize that not only have their pasts come back to haunt them, but their significant others are missing.  With the words of the spell, they put two and two together and realize that their true loves have been replaced by the first people to love each of them.  Everyone is exceptionally shocked to learn that Drusilla was in love with Phil.

While the Phoenix Fighters talk about finding Kaa to send the first loves back and return Lucien, Ariadne, and Aden, Gavin gathers Jace and Drusilla together.  Since he doesn't want to go back, he suggests that they each try to endear themselves to their loves and find a way to remain.  To that end, Gavin encounters Adriana in the lobby.  He attempts everything, including proposing to her, but Adriana remains steadfastly loyal to Aden.

Upstairs, Jace visits with Tranns.  He tries to win her love.  Frustrated with her refusal, he asks if she ever loved him.  Tranns replies that she never could, but that he was the one decent thing in an indecent world.  Meanwhile, Philip and Drusilla meet up in the bar.  Drusilla tries to seduce him, but Philip cannot be swayed.  They end up talking and in the course of the conversation, he learns that she had a son and he might possibly be the father.  Philip apologizes for the fact that he could never love her.

When Tranns kisses Jace, he disappears.  She realizes that the way to break the spell is to make peace with the love of her past.  Adriana and Philip make similar discoveries and their former flames vanish.  The next morning, Lucien, Ariadne, and Aden return, remembering nothing, and the order of the House is restored.
